Non-Payment of Child Support

As a result of The Child Support Recovery Act (CSRA) of 1992 followed by The Deadbeat Parents Punishment Act (DDPA) of 1998, collecting child support and back payments has gotten easier, even if the non-paying parent does not reside in the same state as the child.

As a result of tighter guidelines, non-paying parents can now face a variety of actions against them, including the following:

·         Seizure of bank accounts
·         Wages garnished
·         Drivers licenses and professional licenses suspended
·         Property liens
·         Federal and state tax refunds held
·         Denial of state loans and grants
·         Interest added to money owed
·         Refer you to collection agencies
·         Monetary penalties
·         Order your picture posted
·         Jail time, often followed by probation
