How Child Support is Calculated

How child support is calculated differs from state to state.  Calculators do not normally take into account different custody arrangements or other factors that may affect support ordered by a court.  Support calculators are intended to give individuals an estimated support payment.

When considering the amount of child support to be paid, the following may be considered:

·         Number of children
·         Day care expenses
·         Amount of time children spend with each parent
·         Insurance costs
·         Unusual expenses (medical, etc.)
·         Earnings by each parent
·         Standard of living
