Modification to Child Custody Orders:
It is important that parents review and
modify custody orders approximately every
two years. Custody orders need to reflect
the best interest of your child. If parents
can agree on the changes, they merely need
to file with the court and request the
changes be made. If parents cannot agree on
the changes, they will need to file a
request with the court and hope the changes
are granted based on evidence and
information provided.
There are many reasons to modify child
custody orders. One parent may move out of
the area or out of the state. The child
may, for one reason or another, be living
with the other parent. There may be major
parent-child relationship problems. One
parent may have significant changes in pay
or in employment. Child care needs may be
different, especially if a stay at home mom
begins to work. Abuse, neglect or unhealthy
living arrangements may occur, resulting in
needed modifications. Schedules and needs
may require revision of visitation
arrangements.
